How Does Excel V+ Treat Visible Veins?
Excel V+ uses laser energy at wavelengths that target hemoglobin within the blood vessel.
The unwanted vessel absorbs the laser energy and is heated, causing it to close. Over time, the body naturally clears the treated vessel and it becomes less visible.
Because Excel V+ offers adjustable wavelengths, energy settings, pulse durations, and spot sizes, treatment can be customized according to the size, depth, color, and location of the vessel.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
Before treatment, the vessels will be evaluated to determine whether they are appropriate for laser treatment.
During the procedure, the Excel V+ handpiece is placed over the treatment area and pulses of laser energy are delivered directly to the targeted vessels.
You may feel warmth or a sensation similar to a quick snap against the skin. Excel V+ incorporates cooling technology to help protect the surrounding skin and improve comfort during treatment.
Treatment generally takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of the vessels being treated.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments needed depends on the size, depth, color, location, and number of vessels being treated.
Small superficial facial vessels may show significant improvement after a single treatment. Larger, deeper, or more numerous vessels may require additional sessions.
New vessels can also develop over time, so future maintenance treatment may be desired.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
The response following treatment depends on the type and size of vessel treated.
Temporary effects may include:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Tenderness
A temporary raised or “bug bite” appearance can also occur after treatment of certain superficial vessels.
These effects generally resolve with time. Blistering is uncommon but possible.
What Should I Know About Leg Vein Treatment?
Laser treatment can be appropriate for certain small superficial leg veins, but it is not intended to treat large or bulging varicose veins.
Following leg vein treatment, compression stockings may be recommended depending on the vessels treated. High-impact activity should generally be avoided for approximately three to five days.
Rarely, treatment can result in hemosiderin staining, which causes brown discoloration along the treated vessel. This typically fades gradually but may take one to two years to resolve and, in rare cases, can be permanent.
