What Can Excel V+ Treat?

The Excel V+ can be used to treat a variety of vascular and pigmented concerns, including:

How Does Excel V+ Work?

Many vascular skin conditions are caused by visible, dilated, or abnormal blood vessels within the skin. Rosacea, for example, can cause facial blood vessels to dilate excessively, resulting in persistent redness and flushing.

The Excel V+ uses laser energy that is selectively absorbed by targeted blood vessels. This energy heats the unwanted vessels, causing them to close and gradually be cleared by the body.

For pigmented concerns, laser energy can be directed toward unwanted pigment while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.

What Makes Excel V+ Different?

The Excel V+ offers multiple wavelengths and highly customizable treatment settings, allowing us to address both superficial and deeper vascular and pigmented concerns with one laser platform.

Shorter pulses can be used for superficial concerns such as small vessels and areas of discoloration, while other settings can target deeper vascular concerns such as leg veins.

A range of spot sizes also allows small areas to be treated precisely while larger areas can be treated efficiently.

This versatility allows treatment to be customized according to your specific condition, skin type, and treatment area.

What Should I Expect During Treatment?

Before beginning treatment, your skin and the area of concern will be evaluated to determine whether Excel V+ is appropriate for you. A test area may be performed to evaluate your skin's response to the laser.

No injections or topical anesthesia are typically required. Depending on the condition being treated, you may feel a slight snap or flick sensation or simply a passing warmth.

The Excel V+ incorporates cooling technology to protect the skin and improve comfort during treatment.

Most treatments take approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and condition of the treatment area.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments needed depends on the condition being treated as well as its size, depth, color, and severity.

Superficial vascular concerns, such as small telangiectasias and diffuse redness, are generally easier to treat, and some patients may see significant improvement after a single treatment.

Other conditions may require a series of treatments to achieve the desired result.

Can Excel V+ Improve Wrinkles and Scars?

The laser energy delivered by Excel V+ can stimulate neocollagenesis—the process through which the skin produces new collagen.

This can help improve the appearance of fine lines and certain scars. In scar tissue, laser energy can also help stimulate remodeling of disorganized collagen, allowing smoother, more organized collagen to develop.

For shallow, depressed scars such as certain acne scars, collagen stimulation may help improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of the depression.

Is Excel V+ Appropriate for My Skin Type?

The Excel V+ offers customizable wavelengths and treatment parameters that allow it to be used on a wide range of skin types.

However, the appropriate wavelength and settings depend on your skin type as well as the condition being treated. Your skin will be evaluated before treatment to determine whether Excel V+ is appropriate and which treatment parameters should be used.

What Are the Possible Side Effects?

Side effects vary depending on the condition treated and the laser settings used.

Temporary effects may include:

• Redness
• Swelling
• Bruising
• A temporary raised or “bug bite” appearance

These generally resolve with time. Blistering can occur rarely.

Your expected downtime and potential side effects will be discussed before treatment based on the specific condition being treated.

What Should I Do Before Treatment?

To prepare for your excel V+ treatment:

• Avoid tanning and self-tanners for four weeks before treatment.
• Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin, such as waxing, for one to two weeks before treatment.
• Tell us if you have a history of cold sores, as antiviral medication may be recommended before certain treatments.

Additional instructions may be provided based on your treatment area and condition.

What Should I Do After Treatment?

Following treatment of vascular or pigmented lesions:

• Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen.
• Expect some temporary redness, swelling, or bruising.
• A temporary raised or “bug bite” appearance may occur and usually resolves within one to two days.
• Avoid excessive heat and hot tubs for one to two days.
• Avoid potentially irritating products, including tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid, for approximately two weeks or as directed.

After Spider Leg Vein Treatment

Compression stockings may be recommended depending on your treatment. Avoid high-impact activity for approximately three to five days.

Rarely, hemosiderin staining—a brown discoloration of the skin—can occur following treatment. This usually fades gradually but may take one to two years to resolve and, in rare cases, may be permanent.

How Much Does Excel V+ Treatment Cost?

Treatment cost depends on the condition being treated, the size and number of treatment areas, and the number of sessions required.
